New Product for Emissions?

04/18/2013 11:20 PM

I stumbled across this the other day and laughed...then I got to thinking. How could something so thin actually absorb enough offensive gasses to work given how thin it is. I thought to work it would have to channel the gases along the length of the pad and out the front (keeping things warm in the process?).

Any ideas if this could actually work?

What do YOU think. I will give you a clue as to what I think, I think these are located very close to what they actually are.

I remember an expensive (mostly water, or should I say Aqua) face spray that was supposed to block something like 90% of the radiation coming out of a CRT screen.

True, but if they are made with active carbon they will absorb some of the foul gasses. I am just wondering how much.

I know some of the military chem-suits are just cotton saturated with carbon. I don't know any stories about people farting in a chem suit and bragging...

'...people farting in a chem suit and bragging......'

.

I can attest to this occurring numerous times. It undoubtedly still occurs frequently.

I cannot attest to how often the bragging is related to the effectiveness of the Chem suit in mitigating (compared to expectations) the offensiveness, though I suspect that particular scenario occurs rarely, if ever.

Yes, activated charcoal is well known for it's absorption properties....To be completely effective however, it would require an airtight seal to force flatulence through activated charcoal material, but in any case should partially mitigate odors associated with digestive disorders....These types of devices should be required for some people...(you know who you are)

If you have this problem you might try digestive enzymes with your meals, as a more effective solution....but for some people with medical problems, these are the answer....

Well, I don't have problems (often)...I just saw this product and laughed. Then I thought I would share the humor here and see what would come of discussion about curbing a monumental problem on overseas flights.

I am hoping that someone will be able to quantify the quantity of gasses that can be absorbed by this material. There are several ov these out there (I decided to share the one with a decent image) but some have notes that say they are good for several washings.

Can't say how well it works, but activated charcoal has a huge amount of surface area per unit volume.

This reminded me of working outside at subzero temps and passing gas in my 'carharts', as the gas exited under my chin while I was talking to an employee I was told "man, you need to brush your teeth" . This product may have been effective- I gave up chineese food and Mcdonalds.
