Gmail Problem

05/02/2013 1:47 PM

Got a weird little problem with GMail.

When I want to attach a word doc to an email, it doesn't show me all the folders. I gotta move the document into a folder it can see, and attach it from there.

I've been using GMail for about two years with no problems (other than GMail is a terrible system). The other day, it hiccupped, lost an email, and put up some weird error messages (no, I don't remember what they were). I restarted it, and everything seems to work--except for not seeing all the folders. I can see the folders in Word and Windows Explorer, but GMail can't see them.

For a couple of months now, it's been telling me that I need to update my Internet Explorer browser. Is this my punishment for not updating?

Any ideas?

These little glitches are usually due to lack of maintenance....nothing to do with browser...more likely you are searching the wrong location....possibly a registry error....be sure to check that you have included 'all files' in your search....Some files can be duplicated in different parts of harddrive or backup drive, but not be complete, make sure the location you are searching is where you saved the file to, and the type of file is included in the search....

The files and folders haven't moved in months, and everything has been working fine until recently. It just all of a sudden can't find all the folders (all are word docs and photos, and all in the Documents folder). It sees some of the folders, but not all.

So do a maintenance sweep, some house cleaning and updating...Disk cleanup , defrag, update files, clean registry....

In such problems always give your system; Browser you are using at least.

What version of Internet Explorer are you using? I've heard of and experienced lots of bugs with IE 10.

At work I use Chrome but I recently got a new laptop at home and it came with IE 10 installed. I haven't had the time to install an alternate browser and I've been experiencing some issues. For one, when I go to upload pictures to eBay, it takes a long time for all of the folders on my external hard drive to show up. That sounds similar to your problem although the folders do display eventually.

Try another browser if you can. Chrome and Firefox are much better in that they are faster (I think Chrome is the fastest of the two) and more customizable.

I had the same issue. GMail updated their system and when I opened it up, it looked wierd and the functionality was limited. I updated IE and it didn't seem to help so I wound up downloading Chrome and use that as my browser and now it works fine.

I do not think it is a Gmail problem per se. Most problems associated with attachments whether receiving or sending are caused by the browser prg., the IE, specially its associated email application prg. called Outlook!

If you do not like to resolve your problem / issue by switching to another browser like Chrome or Firefox, etc., you may need to check the file folders property settings, ie., user, owner, rights and privileges.. Internet Explorer works together with the email application program called Outlook! And their normal behavior or tendencies, especially the Outlook program is to grab, alter and take over the folder's properties, and at times even hide them from the user's view!

Good luck!

1) Do you use gmail directly, or via a client like Outlook? I use Outlook and FireFox with no problems.

2) Try FireFox or Chrome, both superior to IE.
