Shame On Google? Misleading "Memorial Day" Doodle

05/23/2013 2:49 PM

Today's Google Doodle should have been better vetted by the folks with the worlds largest search engine. Problem is that many Americans already confuse Memorial Day with Veteran's Day. Memorial Day is to honor those who have died in service to their country. Veterans Day celebrates all veterans, living and deceased. The "dad/soldier" in the doodle is obviously alive, and as a consequence thousands, maybe millions more folks will be misinformed of the meaning of Memorial Day.

Maybe it'll change when it's actually memorial day (Monday)?

A little early to be countin' chickens, dontcha think?

Edit: Turns out the drawing is for "Doodle 4 Google" with the theme "My Best Day Ever..." which was a competition from K-12 for kids to design the Google theme for a day :P

Well, I mean, we can still shame Google, but we should do it for the correct reasons.

You are correct, my bad for connecting the Google 4 Doodle winner with Memorial Day. That said, it'll be interesting to look back come Tuesday to see how Thursday's Google home page was interpreted.

I will tweak the title.

Personally my views on holidays is if it will get me a paid day off from work I will celebrate anything whether it's done correctly or otherwise.

Will someone with better vision, or imagination than I, please explain the last frame of this drawing to me.

All I can conger up is an image that surly would not have been drawn by Sabrina Brady who was drawing a scene from when her father came back from Iraq.

Very Michael Jackson ish.....or....... if you zoom your browser out a bit further, it looks like a man cuddling a leg of ham that has dropped his bag and his jeans in order to take an urgent dump!!

I saw it the same way you did...it happens all of the time. Usually, the ones who get it are the vets...especially those who have felt loss close to them.
