In order to avoid duplicate effort, please list the information available so far pending responses.

A small piece of advice...

Start by designing a 1mW one and then work up from there to a 1MW unit.

Seriously though... the amount of pure engineering work involved in this effort is staggering.

I hope you have a hundred or so electrical, mechanical and structural engineers sitting around waiting for something to do. You are going to need them to accomplish your stated goal.

You will need WAY more than books.

Try getting an electrical Engineering degree, courses in generator design and construction, diesel engines, at least a decade of hands-on work experience in the fields relating to generator design, construction and maintenance and a few million dollars of funding and some additional suitably-qualified staff just for a start.

Seriously, why not just BUY one? There is NO way you are going to be able to produce something anywhere near as good, cheap, reliable and safe as the generators offered by existing professional companies. And this is WAY to big a step for a personal project.

Have you considered offering your time for social work instead and starting much, much smaller?

Try a quick internet search for this very broad question (you found CR4, surely you can find "generator manufacturers and suppliers").

Alternatively use some of those millions of money to hire an engineering consultancy firm to do the work for you.
