Electrical Materials Calvanization Standers

Dear friends

This is my first participation in this great forum.

I have a question regarding electrical materials galvanization standers like IEEE , IEC , … against corrosion.

The thickness of the zinc in the materials like transformers, RMUs , channel at wooden poles etc.

I searched in the internet but I did not find them.

Waiting to share with your experience.

Obviously it is spelling mistake.

You have referred "pispopouncitation" I think you are meaning MISPRONOUNCIATION. Am I right.

The thickness is that required so that the substrate will remain corrosion free for the specified period.

Did you search (Google) 'galvanizing standards'? In the U.S. there are ASTM standards for galvanizing, heck, there's even an American Galvanizers Association.

What I was trying to know the standards of the galvanization for the electrical power equipments ... like transformers and others.

Sorry for the spelling mistake.

I have then find some British standards (B.S 729) and one of our standards in Oman

Oman Electricity Standards (OES 11).

Which both stat that the minimum thickness of the zinc coating for the all ferrous parts

Should not be less than 127 microns.

Clear Zinc - silver color is 24 hours for constant exposure to salt water.

Gold Zinc - gold in color is 96 hours for constant exposure to salt water.

If it is just for cosmetic finish we use clear.

If it is subjected to wear, like a conveyor drum we use the gold with Min. Thk of .0003"

For heavy duty wear exposure we hot dip galvanize which provides 1000 hours constant exposure to salt water.

If we use a 3% chlorine solution, we use stainless steel 304 and 316. 3% Chlorine solution will eat through to mild steel in no time at all, even if it is just being splashed on. We've had to replace standard zinc plated bearings with stainless steel bearings on machinery just for being in close proximity within a few months of installation.
