Step 1: state the dimensions of the tank and define what is in the tank.

  • It's not possible without some process data - the fluid(s) present, temperatures, pressures, flowrates, etc.
  • It's not possible without tank overall dimensions and shape - is it a 50ml beaker or is it 5000m3 - is it rectangular, cylindrical, spherical or some other shape - is it in the ground, on the ground or up in the air somewhere - how much headroom is avaible during assembly and afterwards - how is access to be maintained for maintenance, etc.
  • It's not possible without some idea of connections available onto the tank - flange details, screwed connections, etc.
  • It's not possible without some idea of the receiving equipment to which it is to be connected and how far it is away - 5m or 50km?
  • It's not possible without finalising a potentially explosive area zoning drawing and applying this as a selection filter.

These are the basic requirements!

If you have to ask and you don't understand what must be known to select a level sensor then by definition you are not qualified. Hire somebody before you kill somebody.
