TNS-Earthing System

06/07/2013 4:35 AM

Hi All,

TNS-Earthing System.

If there is a loss to the Main Earthing(No Electrical earthing at all,Main earth cable disconnected from the main earth terminal)and there is a L-E short Circuit to the MSB.

1)Will the Main ACB/MCCB trip?

2)Will the Earth Fault Relay activated?

1) It may or may not

2) It may or may not

But some body will definitely get a shock or burn injury if they are in the vicinity of the MSB.

Better to ensure there is no loss to main earthing (now what is "main earthing").

Hi Pattabhiraman,

Main earthing refer to the TNS earthing where the earth cable connects to the Earth Terminal.

Nothing changes with this additional detail.

I think it is better to describe it as protective earthing (PE) so as not to confuse with neutral earthing.

If there is a loss of earth, no current path and there would no high current and no tripping of ACB/MCCB .

Not necessarily. It depends on other system conditions. That's why "It may or may not".
