Which Velocity Measuring Instrument Will Help My Setup?

06/21/2013 2:12 AM

I want to find out the actual flow across a rotary valve whose are is keep on changing. As the area changes, flow also changes. I want to measure this change. FLOW IS OSCILLATING (Cyclic). Fluid is Helium and Cycle time is around 0.25 - 1 second. I want to measure the flow rate at each small time step (If I divide cycle time into 100 parts.).

As the flow is product of area, density and velocity. I want to know how to measure velocity? Which instrument will give me velocity after such a small time step? Please provide details.

How about a pitot tube?

It really would help to have some useful real-world data on this thing. Line size would be a good start, as would temperature and pressure.

The most charitably I can look at this is a poorly presented homework. Helium, as a liquid (I presume, by necessity) is CRYOGENIC in a bad way. It is handled by verrry experienced PhD's and their verrrry experienced engineers. Not in need of advice from us.

Poor idea of a discussion.
