UNIFILO Mat

Does anyone know of a supplier for a competing product to Saint Gobain Vetrotex?

Thanks

Vince,

I have experience with glass fibers, chopped strand and mats. I believe from your title that you are interested in a fiberglass mat. If so, can you describe the application of use? Also, if you have information on mat thickness, bulk density and/or thickness, that will be helpful.

There are many alternate material options but I want to guide you to the best resource.

Both Lydall (www.lydall.com) and Ahlstrom (www.ahlstrom.com) should be able to help you. If you need contacts at either firm, please send me a private note.

There are also other firms (Freudenberg, Johns-Manville or Owens Corning) but I would want to review your needs in more detail. For example:

  • Do you need continuous fiber to ensure tensile strength?
  • Is fiber uniformity important for a smooth surface on the pultruded part?
  • Are electrical or thermal properties important?
  • Is there any other property that is really important for your application?
  • Is your need just to find a lower cost material?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Millimat.

Thank you again for your help.

I'm in Toronto, but a friend in Italy is looking for alternate supply sources.

I will get more pertinent info from him and get back to you.

Cheers

Vince

If you need continuous fibers, then Johns-Manville or Owens Corning are the primary resources you should consider. There are other suppliers of "Continuous Strand Mat" but if smoothness and uniformity are important (and you say they are), then I would work with one of the two major suppliers I have mentioned here.

Good Luck with your application!
