Perhaps Smartphones Are Getting Too Smart...

06/22/2013 10:10 PM

...especially when they are being used essentially unmodified as the controllers in el-cheapo communications satellites!!!

It's simpler than that... you know they are too smart 'cos the battery life is shite.
As soon as we get better batteries, some muppet puts on a bigger screen and a load of cr4p that people think they can't live without.

Pretty much like modern cars... park 'em for a week and the battery is dead .

Designed by idiots for a gullible public at the request of marketting wonks

We went on holiday while back.

14 YO boy with girlfriend back in Arizona went, too. 4,000 text messages later, they were reunited.

Don't really need laptops any more. I can do everything on my phone that I can do on my laptop. OK, my phone will do everything my laptop can do, if I knew how to make the blasted thing work. Where'd that kid go??

I have an Android phone. Hate it!

I have a Sonim phone and it has a standby run time of nearly a month plus it's waterproof and nearly indestructible too!

Best part my wife pays the monthly bill for it too!

I have an old cigarrette carton painted black with a screen and buttons drawn on it.
Battery never goes flat, zero bill, light weight in the pocket and it never rings at an inconvenient time.

Mine is usually left in the vehicle turned off or someplace in my computer room turned off.

I really didn't want a cell phone but my wife insisted so I got the most rugged durable thing on the market. She thought that if I had one she could talk to me any time. I showed her! My cell phone is for my convenience and mine only!

BTW I think I used it about 5 minutes in the last 3 months.

The latest Mercs' I believe have an auxilary battery specifically to prevent this. Classic patch up design instead of clever design.

Maybe your car is ok... I tested mine with it supposedly 'OFF'.
All the unecessary electronics was still drawing 0.9Amps .

Quick order of magnitude calc' call it one amp 25 hours a day for 5 days.

125 amp hours... looks like a flat battery to me.

Maybe it shouldn't draw 0.9 amp, but the electronics is so badly designed that as soon as the volts go a bit low, the unecessary sensor on the ignition switch insists you haven't switched it off, so it won't let you lock the doors, in case you leave the 'key' in.
The 'key' doesn't actually go in the ingnition switch anyhow... because it is an electronic 'intelli key' which works by RF and can stay in your pocket!

Do you get what I mean by daft overcomplicated design now?

In case you don't believe me, or want to look into it further it's a Nissan Micra (other than the moronic electronics it's a nice car)...

That is interesting.

I recently purchased a Hyundai with a similar keyless ignition. I will have to check into this to see how my car compares.

I usually have this problem with my '72 Jeep and '76 Corvette. I keep the Jeep on trickle and disconnect the 'vette's battery. Now it's the old and the new.
