Fuel Pump System

06/23/2013 8:46 AM

I am having a fuel pump system 2 pumps (1 working + 1 standby). Where I found electrically they have provided a MPCB and ELCB.

Could you poeple help to understand whether this is right...?

MPCB will serve you

1. Single phasing.

2. Overloads.

3. Short circuit protection.

Then Still we required ELCB for earth protection. (Short circuit protection will not cover earth protection)

It is correct only if the governing authority (town ordinance, installation contract, owner of the equipment, fire marshal, insurance contract, etc.) for the installation site says that this is required. Pumping fuel with electric motors is a common practice but electric sparks can ignite many fuels. These circuit breakers are part of the safety system that somebody who could see your whole system decided were required. I say that you should not touch this. It is possible that the ELCB is installed so that anyone who tries to douse a fire near the fuel with water will immediately electrically disconnect these motors.

DO NOT BYPASS A SAFETY SYSTEM!

This depends on the full set of protective functions you need, versus what can be supplied with single versus combined items of equipment. I'm not sure what manufacturers, if any, combine the functions of MPCB and ELCB into a single unit. If they don't, then you may need both.

Delete the overload facility. Overload is provided by installing an overload protection device as well with the setting on the device the same as the full load current of the motor.

If in doubt, consult a qualified Electrical Engineer.
