PMC vs MMC

06/23/2013 9:22 PM

So i set out to discover the properties of polymer matrix composites and metal matrix composites. On the 1st impression, i think metal composites would have better strength properties compared to polymer composite (with the same reinforcement : fiber) however, after reading this article:

http://www.princeton.edu/~ota/disk2/1988/8801/880107.PDF

which says that the PMC's strength is actually stronger than in MMC? Is there any explanation to this mechanical phenomena?

Was there no explanation in the article?

What was your motivation for, "set(ing) out to discover the properties of polymer matrix composites and metal matrix composites".

Work, school, idle curiosity? What?

Doesn't the article speak for itself?
