My intention was not to receive information theory, but an experience sharing from those who have worked with these type of instuments.

Your original plea for help sets forth no conditions, nor expectations that you will only accept help from those who can give you the instant knowledge you demand.

If you do not wish to be bothered by having to think, I suggest that you hire a tutor, or instrument technician to educate you.

Otherwise, you will be required to do what the rest iof us did, and that is to read and learn. I'd start by going to some web sites and READING WHAT THEY SAY about wireless instrumentation.

  • Talk to the people that run the myriads of weather stations across the planet, perhaps?
  • How about those that use astronomical instruments, such as radio- and optical-telescopes?
  • Or those that run remote waterworks, perhaps?

Context information would help the forum deliver useful responses. There is none in the two questions.

Your question is puzzling, Frankly if you are looking at needing a wireless instrument "In case of Remote location" There are no limitations. The capability exists to operate and view instruments as far and nearly as fast as a beam of light can travel, so perhaps the speed of light would be a limiting factor. the premise of your question is that it would be impractical to use a hard wired device. Therefore wireless is your only viable option. Now if you are asking what obstacles or considerations you will need to take into account, ie. distance, physical obstructions, external RF, UV, IR interference that is an entire different question.

Basically I 've never used Wireless Instrumentation, I want to know about their reliability

I know , Several repeaters may not be used if the distance is too long ,They are costly can't afford if they fail repeatedly .I don't know about : How well they perform if interference of big trees etc.?

Re: Wireless Instrumentation

Hopefully this will help, errr maybe not

1. Reliability - Use the proper NEMA rated Enclosures for the application. Ensure you have reliable and adequate power source, (consider backup power as well especially for critical applications). Use a transmission method suitable for the medium you will be transmitting thru, ie, water, air, vacuum, trees, sky scrapers, solar flares. do you need simplex, half-duplex, or full-duplex communications plan accordingly.

"I know , Several repeaters may not be used if the distance is too long"

Repeaters - ??actually you will need to use a repeater if the distance is too long, or switch to a different transmission method.

They are costly can't afford if they fail repeatedly

2. Cost - As with most other things in life you get what you pay for so good quality wireless is a fairly expensive investment and bad wireless is cheap! If you can't afford it, Hmmm maybe you don't need to be doing it. . . . . . or you can just print up money like we do it seems to work.

3. Failure - If you plan ahead and adhere to the 1st paragraph suggestion and buy quality equipment you should not have a high failure rate if you do, go back to step one and make sure you have it right.

I don't know about : How well they perform if interference of big trees etc.?

In planning your installation make sure you take into account the interference that large obstructions can cause, also look for interference you won't see, EMI/RFI/UV/IR the answer is very seldom "More Power".

It sounds to me like for now you should stick to some easy applications. Good luck!

The Romulan Empire limits all wireless communication... or is it the CIA? GCHQ? wha'eva...
That's why whistle blowers use whistles not wireless technology.
Is it just me or does anyone else think if the US just ignored that whistle blower bloke they'd save everyone a shed load of trouble and it would have blown over by now...I think it's just attention seeking.
Lets all SHOUT about SECRET STUFF and don't stop untill everyone has heard about it.
Methinks they do protest too much.

Its out there, so you can use it but just like any instrument you will need to work out the risks involved in using them.We use a few for monitoring only, if it fails no big deal.

As you admitted being clueless, it is time to farm out the task to someone who "might" possess some knowledge.
