Level Measurement

07/24/2013 2:27 AM

Guys..

Kindly suggest sensor for WFI (Water For Injection) measurement, where multiple product (WFI + methnol + FeCl3 + NaoH etc) Solution as inlet to Reactor.

Tank application (Agitator).

1) Temperature 5 DegC to 100 DegC

2) With best possible accuracy.

  • Ultrasonic
  • Radar
  • Displacement
  • Weigh-cells

Any of these techniques could work, however note that at 100degC and ambient pressure, the liquid would be boiling and its composition will be changing as the methanol is driven off and the surface is becoming agitated due to steam bubbles being generated, so capacitance won't work and differential pressure would be dubious; the surface is becoming turbulent, which may affect some methods of measurement such as ultrasonic and radar.

The words <...best possible accuracy...> bear little real meaning at this juncture.

It's looking like putting the whole vessel on weigh-cells is the best way forward.

Good luck with the installation.

The presence of WFI [acronymectomy: water for injection] and methanol together is abstruse, particularly as the body doesn't react well to any methyl chemistry that may be found within it.

First they are adding cake (fecl3 + Na2Co3 etc) in reactor then WFI + NaoH + Methanol Solution.

After that Xylene.

can we check level during each phase of addition...?? which is suitable sensor for the same.

Weigh cells, especially with that lot!

Pay careful attention to process materials containment and hazardous area zoning. Get a specialist in hazardous area electrical equipment to do the design, selection, installation and commissioning if equipment lies in those areas.

Another option, if this is a fixed batch into an empty vessel, might be to pre-measure (weigh) the solids and add the liquids through a mass-flow meter (MicroMotion is one). Either way, weight will probably be more accurate than level, or is the level measurement a precaution to make sure you don't overfill the vessel?

Hi Bigg

We are using turbine type flow meter, To measure WFI inlet & load cell (in few reactor) , Product is precise that's why end user want level measurement as additional precaution.

Existing Capacitance level sensor not working. (multiple product addition is there)

What a surprise (not).

Load cells and a calibrated sight tube are what I would suggest. Its what I see a lot of places using for 1000 - 10000L liquid batches.
