07/31/2013 3:24 AM

HI,

Is that CT used for transformer earth is identical to the CT's used for lines in the star side of the transformer

What does it say on the as-built drawing? Only, it cannot be seen from here.

Dear Mr. Devinda,

I understand from your question that you are referring to EARTHING TRANSFORMER and CURRENT TRANSFORMER, is the SAME TYPE.

If so, the Answer is THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. and there is a difference between them.

How did you come to that concussion?

We don't know what the CT's are being used for.

Dear Mr.TonyS,

The CT is used for measuring the Current of Large Magnitude.

Earthing Transformer is used for Large Generators. You can see the details here

Could it be identical? Yes. Possible but not probable due to the lower current presented in the ground conductor and the need for high speed ground/earth fault protection of equipement.

Could it be of the same type but with a different "turns-ratio"? Yes. Possible and highly probable.

Selection of CT type and "turns-ratio" selection is dependent on the circuit design, level of system equipment protection required, and the field application.

This may be confusing but it is "real" and the only way to be sure is to first do the reasearch and gain an understanding then review and verify the field application.

Dear DHAYANANDHAN

I am asking about protection current transformers used for transformer protection , not regarding earthing transformers used for earthing the delta winding of the transformer. I understood about your explain regarding earthing transformers.

Dear Shockhiscan,

can you give details of currents transformers like turns ratio and burden, which are used for transformer over current and earth fault protection

That depends upon what type of protection you have for lines and for earth.
