Go to the Volvo website and download it.

"Won't start" could mean any of 50 different things.

The problem is e-mail and websites. Wrong media for problem-solving!

  • Get on the phone to Volvo. Be a total pest with them. Irritate them until what is needed arrives. Talk to a technical specialist there, who may be able to diagnose the problem over the phone.
  • If that doesn't work, use the phone to arrange for the local technical specialist to call in, diagnose, fault-find and advise. What is needed is something faster.
  • Surely there is a planned preventative maintenance schedule on this thing? If not, then use the phone to set one up.

Now that is "responsibility" - the ability to respond to the problem at hand.

First, calm down. Don't panic. You need to think clearly or you will not fix this.

Second, this is the wrong site to get machine specific support. We can help you in only a generic fashion. Volvo support is the ideal place to get this assistance.

Third, be concise and methodical in your explanation of what is or is not happening. Unless you can get support to arrive at your location, your senses translated through your words are the only way support can help you. "It doesn't run" and "we are in darkness" is useless diagnostic information. Identify and clearly communicate with support (us or a remote Volvo technician) what does and does not work and at what point does the failure happen. Does the engine run but the generator not produce electricity? Does the electric start try but fail to spin the engine?

Many times a wiring diagram is not really needed to fix a previously working system. Inspection of previously working wiring will most of the time identify the root of an electrical problem. Look for bad connections, broken wires, chaffed insulation, corrosion, etc. Now if you find that a rodent has chewed through multiple wires in a harness and you find that the wires are not color coded then you will need a wiring document.

If you have done everything stated in the OPERATOR MANUAL diagnostics, and no joy, it's time to get in contact with an expert. "Responsible" means exactly that and wiring diagram even if you had it, on a "won't start" expertise, can't go far. S.M.

Have you gone through the basic troubleshooting steps in the operations manual, page 49 (pdf), available here?

http://www.magnumenergy.com/service/genwiringdiagrams.htm

If you expect loss of control command - from software side ; program needs to be uploaded .

If from hardware - dry soldering / loose connection or replacement of cable based on DMM's continuity tester feedback ( w.r.t. Ohmic value between points ) would be of our concern . In this case , similar gen. set if with yourselves - will be much easier for comparing the values ; w/o drawings . 5V DC if used by them - that should exist .

Other drawings will also give reliable feedbacks . Apart from this , we always don't need drawings . I will prefer to give references of earlier discussions on similar topics in this Forum .

Thanks to CR4, I have the wiring diagram now, from what is before me now, I am dealing with a CAN J1939-75 diagnosis. This engine is equipped with a CAN bus communication system. The control panel is MICS TELYS and the ECU is tad734ge (volvo penta/powertrain) I have contacted volvo penta representative. and their quote is prohibitive due to their proximity. The engine is receiving mechanical. attention by an experienced mechanic due to water ingress from existing poorly constructed exhaust routing. Present control panel faults reads; "Engine CAN BUS" and "CAN BUS 1" When the mechanic is done, I hope to eliminate this "CANbus" issue, but how? I don't yet

CAN Bus communication is claimed for its efficiency even if its one of the terminals come into contact with Ground or Supply voltage .

Perhaps , loose connection { no contiuity } or both are in contact with ! - could also be a cause . You may check for its voltage availability as well .

Sure Sivaa. And thanks, we have resorted to alternative electric source. The CANbus is responding with associated OEM interconnections with all fault codes eliminated. The pending issue before me now is STUCK MECHANICAL PISTONS due to water ingress. I'm working with a mechanic now to free the ringed stuck pistons.I shall celebrate with CR4 here on success

So , you now work for stand-by source . It is good to have such an alternative . Regards .
