Calculation Of Transmission Line Parameters.

08/08/2013 9:54 AM

I have been given GMD of value 13.229 feet
The 4/0 ACSR conductor is selected from manual of southwire conductors. However in that product manual they have not given the value of 'd' which is the distance between conductors in a bundle. Also they have not given the GMR value. How should I go ahead and calaculate GMR with the information given in that catalogue. The link is as follows:

http://www.southwire.com/ProductCatalog/proddetail.jsp?htmlpreview=true&token=16&desc=ACSR

I have to calculate the impedance for a line of 22.82 miles.

Thank you.

You already know that you're missing "d", so now your job is to go get it. Hint, you need to talk to a real engineer familiar with the design of the line, it's dependent on the physical arrangement of the phase conductors, and the GMR (Geometric Mean Radius) depends upon "d" as well. And don't forget to ask if there any transpositions in the line otherwise you might have to calculate the zero sequence impedance as well. It would be time well spent if you read up on transmission line design, but hey, you're the consultant, you're supposed to know all this!

In the following publication-see ch.13-there is shown, for some conductor types, GMR also.
