GS User Question - Changing Gasket on a Valve

08/14/2013 9:38 AM

Another question from an IHS GlobalSpec user. Can you help?

I'm looking for some cut sheets on this valve (Waterman TS-2 Telescoping Valve) to take it apart and change the gasket between the drop pipe and the telescoping top section. My customer has purchased the gaskets and has asked me to install it for them.

Can you send me instruction on preforming this task?

Have you considered using Teflon Joint Sealant? This comes in a string like shape. Available in various configurations (width, thickness, self adhering, virgin ptfe, color, etc). It will take any shape you put it in, any thickness (multiple layers) or width that you put it in. With this you do not have to pull the valve stem on the valve, just the outer tubing. McMaster #4502K32.

I have used it extensively and for much different uses than it was intended for in emergencies. These include valve stem packing, temporary "O" ring replacement, kitchen sink repairs on Sunday evening when I don't have any plumbers putty, electrical insulation, feet for small instrument cases, vibration silencers, flange gaskets, union leak stoppers, etc.

Try it, you may like it!

Good Luck, Old SALT
