AV Pump

09/02/2013 3:09 AM

In a coal-fired power plant, there is an economizer hopper / eco hopper (which is used for capturing coal fly ash in the flue gas before it goes to the air preheater). The ash in the eco hopper is transfered to the "vessel AV pump" by gravitation, where here it will be transporter to the ash silo. My question, Does anyone knows what the abbreviation "AV" in "AV pump" means? Couldn't find any reference in the manual book.

Thanks alot for your help.

There are several people who know what it means, such as:

  • the individual who designed the installation
  • the individual who created the drawings for the installation
  • the individual who maintains the installation
  • the individual who purchased the pump
  • the individual who sold the pump
  • the individual who shipped the pump

among others.

Usually, it means "air-vac" pump, used for evacuation of vessels. It is a type of quasi-centrifugal pump that will continue to pump after any liquid is gone and actually pull a vacuum.

The other version of this thread had more, and perhaps also useful, answers. Instead of picking one or the other of duplicate threads, I wonder if consolidation would be possible.

What about the parts list?

If it isn't there, it must not exist in your unit.

Air-Vac Engineering in Seymour, CT manufactures air-operated pumps that use compressed air to generate vacuum. They are intended for use in evacuating or purging chambers, tanks, and vessels.

I agree with JRaef.See[for instance]:

http://www.nationalconveyors.com/ash/ash-handling/vacuum-pressure-pneumatic-systems/index.html

I think it is an Ash [Handling] Vacuum pump.

This application consists of pneumatically conveying fly ash from the precipitator hoppers to a central dry collection point under vacuum. See[for instance]:

If this is just an ordinary vacuum pump, why the name "AV"?

Does it pump water as JRaef suggested?

Perhaps the questioner can solve this riddle: Is his AV pump powered with compressed air or motor driven?
