Level Switch Specification

09/04/2013 10:11 AM

Hi Everybody,

I'm specifying a level switch (vibrating fork). I only need to know if there is a standard related to the process connection (i.e 2", DN50) and inmersion depth (i.e 10") if the tank where is place is of 50 m3 (3,6 m diameter)

Thanks in Advance

It is only necessary to position the instrument in a location where it can detect the difference between wet and dry as the level fluctuates. There is no need for any external standard, as the details provided by the manufacturer on its specification sheet give all that is needed to design the nozzle on the tank correctly. Once the detail has become clear, a proprietary Standard may be created in the form of a standard instrument mechanical hook-up drawing, and the installation depicted thereon re-used without further query over all future tanks.

The volume of the tank is not relevant as the thing only responds to either wet or dry, which is a function of its position and the level in the tank.

If in doubt, the instrument manufacturer.

Read the application instructions that are surely published by the manufacturer.

ChemistUSX,

NO! There is no industry standard on threaded ports on tanks.

Depending on the size, capacity and material of the tank there is an infinite amount of combinations available.

Spec out the threaded port on your tank to accept your meter.

However, the tank will mostly outlive the meter so in all common sense, I would go maybe a size or two larger to accept a new model of meter when your current one dies!

Good Luck

BA
