But we have known that information for nearly a century. Hardly "news".

It might be a century to you. It's a couple of hours for others.

Travel only to the future? That's obviously a chinese design time machine. All objects accelerating to relativistic speeds are potentially such a crap of a machine. But that's not a time machine, it's a long time ago predicted time "slowing" machine. S.M.

Slowing down time is easy, just start a meeting.

There is something about this guy that makes me not want to take anything he says seriously.

.

Anyway, you don't need a time machine to travel into the future. You are traveling into the future right now. It might be impossible to stop....only a sucker would buy/build a machine to do what can't, not, occur.

.

If you are going to say that moving at the close to the speed of light (or perhaps even just suspended animation) is a forward traveling time machine, the argument that it is impossible to build a machine that goes backwards seems kind of short sighted.

.

All you would have to do is either push the planet (that you are not on) that supports the people you are using as a reference close to the speed of light; you would have constructed a time machine that transported you and the remainder of the universe not on that planet back in time.

.

Alternately, if slowing your clock down via relativity, or entering suspended animation is going to count as moving forward in time, perhaps people could be considered to have moved back in time (relative to everyone else, but not back to before events that have already occurred) by massively accelerating their clocks.

.

Being given an IV drip supplying varying rates of adrenaline, amphetamines, Provigil, caffeine, nicotine, theobromine, DMT, and L-Dopa, while breathing an atmosphere of carbogen would probably accelerate anyone's clock noticeably far faster than the norm... essentially, comparatively, everyone else would have moved forward as if they had stepped into the time machine recommended in the article.

.

And if everything else moved forward more than you... didn't you really move backward? What? You aren't convinced? Just wait till the IV drip starts... you'll be convinced.

OMG! He's already on the IV drip!

.

Thank you for that link. It made me laugh.

What an incredable crock of poo.

How'd this guy get a job.

It was funny, but only thanks to the funny guy, not the guy with no answers.

Get a watch Brian!

I know that slowing down time is possible today.

Just spend an hour watching TV with my wife when one of her reality drama shows are on. It may only be on for an hour but I promise that if you are like me that's easily the longest hour of your week.

Especially if it's an episode that gets her talking to the TV like the people on it can hear her. During those episodes time goes so slow I can actually feel my hair growing and turning white.

Accelerating anyone to relativistic speeds is not actually that easy. There is a far easier way to travel into the future. Unfortunately you currently have to be pretty small, like a bacterium, to be confident of surviving it. You could just have yourself frozen for the duration. Bacteria survive that pretty well. Humans, well, it hasn't been tried, as far as I know. At least not on a live person. I think a lot of people have had their bodies frozen after their deaths.

Imagine how disappointed future generations will be when they thaw out body after body only to discover we just freeze dead people with incurable diseases:

"Not a single live one in the lot! Do they think we can bring the dead back to life after they've already died of these horrible diseases? Who do they think we are, Jesus Christ? On the other hand we do get plenty of perfectly healthy bacteria."

That might work, depending on technological advances at the time. Of course, if humanity is going through a hard time then, they might be more interested in the high quality protein.

No, no, no. It isn't ready for release yet.

These are the only models available, so far, and they are anatomically a clone of Chet.

People are put in medically induced comas.... so, you may not be able to travel that far (long?) into the future, but if we are basing this on conscious experience, then it is done all the time.

Based on conscious experience, I do it at least once a day, sometimes two or three times. I plan on doing it again tonight. There are often in-flight movies, but I usually can't remember them.
