Did you google for help for your specific browser? (Firefox, IE, Chrome...)?

You could try switching to a different browser.

What browser are you using? Odds are you just accidentally installed it with some other piece of software. I don't think it's "viral" per se as much as it is plain ol' annoying. In both Chrome and Mozilla, you can go "under the hood" to adjust the default search engine. On top of this, I'd also double check my installed programs through the control panel to make sure "Ask" didn't weasel themselves into there on the back of something else.

Let us know the browser, and we can be more precise in troubleshooting! :D

I think I know what you are going through. It is a bit annoyiong this one and it is viral in a way.

First of all go in the Add Program list and look up ask.com software. There will be some other software too that has been installed at the same time. Get rid of everything you dont need.

Then check out all your desktop links. This thing actually attaches itself to the links with a atribute that opens everything with the ask.com website. So simply changing your preference in the browser will not do it!

The link you send is actually not too bad to guide you through this. Anyway I believe the last part was to clear the registry of the ask.com stuff. Here it also attaches the ask.com to the explorer, internet explorer and other browsers entries.

It is all handy work and needs a little knowledge of the registry.

I came across this one with a link that our IT send me. It installed itself without my wanting and it was pretty annoying.

Got rid of it in the end.

Good luck!

Have a Secret Service guy shoot it.

Go to your browser tools menu and you should find a manage toolbars button.

It may not show up in the add/delete programs menu.

If you have Windows, you can remove it from the control panel just like you would remove any other software.
