Two Schools of Thought on Space Exploration

09/25/2013 7:07 PM

One school says there may be intelligent life within our solar system and even beyond. The other says, there is no intelligent life other than on our planet. If we assume the latter, then one proposal of getting rid of radioactive waste by sending it out into space may be a good idea. But it appears the concensus is for the former statement; don't send radioactive waste out into space because it may cause intelligent life to react against us.

Seriously? Is that really the way you perceive the discussion to be framed? Do those truly seem like the most important factors to consider?

.

.

Really?

You have absolutely no understanding of the dimensions and conditions that actually exist in space.

I hate anonymous posters but.........

The simplest and most practical space based garbage disposal system is to toss everything into the sun.

Reason being even if every single nuclear device ever created on this planet was all shot into the sun at once it literally wouldn't even notice it.

This AP reduces the probability that there is really intelligent life on this planet too .

Throwing radioactive waste into space was never the problem.

The problem is that rocket launches can never be 100% safe and reliable and so accidents resulting in rockets exploding in our atmosphere and spreading a cloud of radioactive waste are frowned upon. There are much safer ways of storing radioactive waste right here on Earth.

One school says there may be intelligent life within our solar system

That's a bit of a stretch don't you think?

When i was working at JACADS on Jhonston Atoll we had a full time RSO that did nothing but walk around detecting radioactive fallout (or particles) that had been deposited on the atoll due to fallout of a errant rocket that had been exploded, in the atmosphere, when it malfunctioned. He could never account for all of the warhead. I believe JACADS was decommisoned around 2003.

Utter B.S.

1. Our solar system has only one intelligent life supporting planet.

2. Launching radio active waste into space is the dumbest idea you can conceive of. Forget the cost per pound to launch payload beyond escape velocity, ever seen a rocket launch fail?

3. Thank god for anonymous posting, because any sane person would be embarrassed with that post.

The best evidence for intelligent life elsewhere in the universe is that it has used this planet to form its loony bin.

I think this whole post lends considerable credibility to the theory of the B Ark.

You call yourself a Brit?

From Google search of "The B Ark":

Golgafrincham was a planet, once home to the Great Circling Poets of Arium. The descendants of these poets made up tales of impending doom about the planet. The tales varied; some said it was going to crash into the sun, or the moon was going to crash into the planet. Others said the planet was to be invaded by twelve-foot piranha bees and still others said it was in danger of being eaten by an enormous mutant star-goat.

These tales of impending doom allowed the Golgafrinchans to rid themselves of an entire useless third of their population. The story was that they would build three Ark ships. Into the A ship would go all the leaders, scientists and other high achievers. The C ship would contain all the people who made things and did things, and the B ark would hold everyone else, such as hairdressers and telephone sanitizers (and lawyers). They sent the B ship off first, but of course the other two-thirds of the population stayed on the planet and lived full, rich and happy lives until they were all wiped out by a virulent disease contracted from a dirty telephone.

The B Ark had a captain who spent all his time in the bath, and two security guards -the overly-militant Number Two and the mellower Number One. It was onto this ship that Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect found themselves after escaping from the Disaster Area's stunt-ship.[1] The ship was programmed to crash-land on their destination planet, which Ford and Arthur discover is prehistoric Earth when they find the signature of Slartibartfast, the Magrathean coastline desginer, on a glacier in what would become Norway.

The end result, according to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe, was Earth's human descendants did not actually arise from the apes, but from the passengers of the B Ark. Depressing, isn't it?

<...You call yourself a Brit?...>

That's just a location, and one can get pills for the other thing nowadays.

Thanks for the explanation.

They make laws about littering our highways. Nothing about your post deals with space exploration. And if we could safely dispose of it by that means. In exploring space who wants to run into all that junk. We put enough up there all ready.

And your post deals with two opinions on life other then ours. We are now going to base this on a opinion?

Seriously, intelligent life anywhere in our solar system?

All one has to do is watch Congress in action on C-Span or the White Hut news conferences, and know there's NO intelligent life here! BRAHAHAHHAHAHHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
