Hi guys ,

Anyone has an idea or can give a quick comparison on the advantages and disadvantages of installing the piping systems in concrete trenches rather than installing it above ground, for sure there`s a code or standard highlighting this issue , appreciate if anyone can advice.

  • Aesthetics
  • Costs
  • Hydraulic considerations
  • Leakage and drainage considerations
  • Access considerations
  • Interruption to other services considerations
  • Security considerations
  • Energy conservation considerations
  • Weather considerations
  • Etc.

"Expert" - say it - "x" is an unknown quantity; "spurt" is a drip under pressure.

Above ground= cheap.

Buried=expensive.

I'm sure all else is secondary.

Ask your piping/mechanical/construction/civil/site/lead engineer about, "a code or standard highlighting this issue".

You don't have to trip, climb over or walk around them.

Better accidental leak containment.

You might consider contacting some of the precast trench system manufacturers for their input. Of course it will be biased in their favor, but they should know some of the issues regarding codes & standards. Here's one mfr I have used for electrical cable trench, but they make a variety of products:

Oldcastle products
