LV Transformer

09/27/2013 7:32 AM

Can anyone tell me how to choose the wire size & turns for LV dry type transformer.

Wether we should concentrate on flux density & current density while choosing the wire.

Eg:5000VA transformer

Pri Volt : 230V, Sec Volt : 60V

Yes. The transformer manufacturer can, for it will have established protocols for this sort of thing.

  • If a rewind is on the cards, then replace like with like, although for a transfomer of that rating it may be better to recycle the original and replace it. That it has burnt out means that the circuit protective equipment is incorrectly set up and will require attention before the new one is energised.
  • If a design is on the cards, forget it. Just buy one. A warranty comes with it, and it could be there, potentially, next day. http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/?sra=oss&r=t&searchTerm=5kVA+transformer (usual disclaimer)
