Insulation Monitoring

09/30/2013 5:21 PM

Whats the insulation of an insulation monitor? I want to install a permanent insulation monitor to give real time readings between two levels on a bridge crane. These levels need to totally isolated from each other.I was concerned that my instrument is going to contribute to the problem.

"Whats the insulation of an insulation monitor"

Wouldn't your "insulation monitor" vendor be the one to ask?

Have you asked their tech guys?

The answer is 42.

If you desire a more concise answer without Golgafrincham obfuscation then you should be more precise on how isolating electrical insulation of a mechanical machine like a crane can be monitored. You might start with explaining monitored for what? (Sway from vertical during a quake, lightning protection to the power grid)

First of all, obtain a detailed script of what it is that needs to be monitored. Ask the five W questions: What/Where/When/Why/Who.

Then do this with the equipment vendor:

There are continuous insulation monitors for motors, but they work by checking the insulation while the motor is Off, it cannot work while the motor is running.

These guys can help you out.

I used their products on a shipboard unground power system (270 VDC and 28 VDC).

Good luck with your quest.
