ABB ACS800 VFD Issues

10/28/2013 10:44 AM

I have an abb acs800 vfd (500kw 718a) being used in a hoisting application/material handling crane. The issue is with the Drive giving a fault via red led located on the remote I/O board. No fault message was given on the hmi panel, however the very last info line on the screen shows dots in succession across the bottom row, as if the drive was uploading or downloading. This only happens sporadically, and after the drive is powered down and back up, will switch to run/ready mode with no fault indication. Any helpful insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Yes. Definitely. I already have a case #....was curious to see if anyone else had ever run into same or similar issue. My first thought, after skimming the manual was possible drive memory full, or memory failure.

I have found ABB tech support far easier to deal with than Rockwell (Rockwell's first question - what is your PO # please).

I concur with PW.. phone a ABB friend!

ABB by design are slippery little beauties.... with lots of flashy lights! If it ain't in the troubleshooting guide, then call them.....

It could be anything from something overheating to a firmware problem. Best of luck in getting it fixed.

Dear All,

I am facing Problem with ACS800 Drive (used to run 55kw Motor). I found that drive is not responding in Remote/Ext Mode. When we test drive in Local Mode it runs perfectly fine. I can control Motor speed setting reference on Local Panel in Local Mode. But in Remote Mode when I operate, Motor does not rotate. It does not respond to Analog Input AI1 for speed ref. I have observed that Local Panel Display shows direction arrow fluctuating randomly. May be Direction of Rotation of Motor is changing randomly. I have checked parameters related with Direction, like (PAR 10.03 is fixed to Forward) still direction of Direction arrow on display shows fluctuating reverse & fwd direction. I have checked all my external input signals to Drive, they are all in their required range as per requirement.

Is this the internal fault of Drive ?

I thank you in advance for your valuable suggestions and feedback

Dear you!

Have you not read the previous answers to the OP question?

so.. I will repeat for you....

PHONE.... (that could be the device you got in your pocket or the other rather larger object that sits on your desk in work or on the wall at home)

A (a word use to join up bigger words in a sentence)

ABB (the company that makes the drive, which is "ABB resulted from the 1988 merger of the Swedish corporation Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) and the Swiss company Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC))

FRIEND (or commonly call the Technical Helpline or Support)

I wish you the very best in fixing your problem, according to another poster, ABB Tech Support are very good at their job!!
