Crowdsourced Mapping Continues to be the New Force in Navigation

11/01/2013 3:40 PM

Digital mapping was once both very expensive, only accurate for 1st world urban areas, and constantly out of date. However, since entities like Google and Waze have started using crowdsourcing to update map data, as well as transitory events on the road systems, the cost of map data has gone down while the real-time accuracy of the maps as well as accessability have gone up significantly: http://unbonmotgroundswell.blogspot.com/2013/09/crowdsourced-mapping-continues-to-be.html

So,

What does this mean to Joe Six-Pack?

New hardware? New pay for use service? is there an app for that?

Something else to distract us when were driving?

Also, there's an interesting feature right here on the home page of CR4 called "Latest Engineering News", just to the right of "Latest Forum Threads" which ran this

NASA Activates 622 Mbps Laser Network Between the Earth and Moon on 10-22-2013.

Thanks!
