As long as they aren't blaming it on AGW.

This is nice; it starts with this...

The IPCC AR4 projected sea level rise in 2100 to range from 18-59 cm, depending on the emission scenario.

...and then dedicates the rest of the article to blowing away the AGW argument, based on historical evidence.

http://judithcurry.com/2011/07/12/historic-variations-in-sea-levels-part-1-from-the-holocene-to-romans/

Personally, I think it looks like a good idea. It's folly to think that a wall will hold back an ocean for the long term.

When ever I see the words "Environmentalists think" I tend to read that in similar context to "the village idiots think".

Well yes they do but that does not make them smart, informed, to correct in their thoughts.

I wonder how many billions we are going to spend trying to keep New Orleans dry?

Maybe building a city that sits below sea level, right on the gulf coast, wasn't such a good idea.

Possibly Carlos Mencia at his finest.

I went over to a friends house. when I got there everyone was laughing so hard they were crying. So I aksed what was so funny. one of my friends finally managed to speak. He said, "they are going to rebuild New Orleans."

What's so funny about that I asked?

IN THE SAME PLACE! was the answer.

Still my favorite Katrina joke.

This isn't a joke, but to me, Katrina demonstrated what government dependency does to people. They become completely incapable of even the simplest tasks...like walking.

Even if I had no money, with 4-5 days notice, that's what I would have done...gathered up a little food and water, and started hiking north.

What those people went through in the Super Dome was a pitiful display of what happens when the government "helps" people from cradle to grave.

Well Kram, it just goes to show that no matter how smart we think we are we will inevitably do something that betrays our ignorance. A city that is 16 feet below sea level on a coast frequented by catastrophic storms, flanked by one of the largest rivers in the world and then a huge freakin lake on the other side, and they are truly surprised when it flooded and to make matters worse, they are too stupid to get out of the way.

The insulting thing is they expect us to pay for it.

on the other hand

I am sure they government could have helped those people..... except the government was the first to evacuate!

I really couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the field of evacuation buses sitting under water.

Nor could I believe it when the threat became imminent, and people were looting stores and stealing TVs. I was screaming at my own TV.

I assume that the government will do nothing for me, and I've been right on target so far.

I know what you mean. I felt the same way. Looting instead of evacuating and then you want me to risk my life to come help you? What good is a big screen TV when you have no power and no home? The lack of intelligence, basic survival intelligence, not even anything advanced but simple basic survival. Of course we were idiots and did instead of letting the natural consequence of poor decision making educate some and eliminate others. Yepper, I'm a definite blow the whistle "YOU! out of the gene pool!" person. I believe people that stupid should not be allowed to reproduce unless dragging the entire human race down is your intended goal.

I know, a social worker right? Well I get really tired of not have the resources I need to help those who are really trying because the freeloaders have sucked up all the resources. Or worse yet abused the resources to the point where society stops offereing them.

A lesson learn at my first posting as a therapist. Every year in October we would get a list of "shelter hoppers" that was over 200 pages long. These were just the known abusers of the domestic violence system. over 10,000 of them roaming the country trying to lie, cheat, manipulate shelter workers without having any DV issue and taking a desparately needed safe place and services away from women and children in real danger.

So I have come to that place where every sperm is NOT sacred, and there are those who simply do not belong in a civilized world. "Thick as a brick" should only apply to building materials.

end of rant.....

Well, it's more like they're trimming off some of the tip. Perhaps they'll hire a mohel.

It strikes me as more of a softening, of their stance against Mother Nature....

Worry?

Not really. It's just being reverted to its former state.

There are lots of places where people live but really shouldn't, or at least shouldn't whine if it becomes really hard to live there "normally" due to natural events.

Moving the seawall inland and letting the water back in is fine. Less worry all around.

Exactly. We had the worst flooding in the history of Minot ND two years ago and now people are building brand new houses in the middle of the floodplain while making a screaming fit about why they can't get reasonable flood insurance.

Can't we just blame George W. Bush and get on with it?
