Need to Setup Steel Galvanizing Plant in Uganda

11/22/2013 11:01 AM

Dear CR4,

As per subject kindly advise on:

1. Cost and Shipping of the plant machinery to Kampala, Uganda.

2. Should be able to hot dip up to 10 meter steel poles amongst others.

3. Advice on safety standards most appreciated.

4. Machinery Maintenance Requirements and Procedures.

Looking forward to feedback.

Regards

Where I am from, however galvanizing means electro galvanizing, they call hot dip also galvanizing. Depending on your needs, one of both fits you best.

What are you galvanizing: rough steel constructions that have to be protected from the weather or more precise metal things.

In both case the protective product is zinc, although electro equipment can also be used for other metals.

The plants I know, have some divisions, in separate buildings. Some sandblast the rough constructions, but most of them put them first in acid baths, these baths have different steps to "manage" the pollution of the acids. This is a very smelly and dangerous start. Do you have the infrastructure ready or you need the buildings also?

Multiple baths are to be installed, depending on the volume. With hollow constructions, the acids need to drain out too in a drip section. And hollow constructions need to be made ready to flood, since they float on top of the zinc otherwise.

Materials are handled by operator, manual, with help hoisting equipment, or automated in case the same objects return.

Same goes for the hot dip baths. The zinc has to be heated and the heating capacity has to sustain also the thermal load of the materials. Heating can be done with several sources, like electricity, gas, or liquid fuels.

Do you want to use separate baths for the poles? are they just straight or do they have an other dimension sideways?

As you see - lots of open questions.

Before a manufacturer will quote you, he needs details before he can help you.

When he has made a decision and you agree, he will be able to have a shipping company make a quote for the weight and volume of the required set up.

Maintenance: don't forget the safety factor first. Corrosive materials(acid) require specific handling and persons need protections, personal or protection provided by design.

You will need raw materials, a waste disposal system. Mechanical maintenance and more.

Nobody can supply you with a price, unless a far too expensive one, taking care of all events, hurricanes, thunderstorms, earthquakes and a total collapse of the sky.

CR4 contributor Stinky Pete could probably do it cheaper.
