SolidWorks has an extensive set of tools for sheet metal design. Sorry, I can't help you get this software. I can just recommend it based on my experience using it.

You should be able to make templates with any 2D free CAD program and a decent operator.

If you have auto cad....... I have used Litio freeware..... Works great..... Also the upgrade is nominal.

I have DraftSight (Free) at home and it does almost everything AutoCad can do.

Litio works inside autocad.... As a routine........ The 3d is not a solid but 3d faces. But it will unfold the model, put bend lines on it and just the geometry for cutting on CNC.

All you need is the shapes.

They can be up sized easily by simply drawing these on a sheet of graph paper.

As far as getting it on a computer, I can see where odd angles (like in a ship) would require more than a 9 dollar template. Perhaps these guys can help. However, a search engine will find a lot of stuff if you just try.

This points to the failure of basic 'education' around the world, now everyone needs a cad program for simple geometry. We did this on butcher paper in high school sheet metal class in 1963. Vocational shop classes are no longer taught in most schools.... now you need to attend a union apprenticeship program or a vocational college for $$$ WALOOB!

The original question was for software. Sure Any or atleast most engineers should have had experience or background in developments. Unless you think otherwise.
