Fence Earthing System

12/08/2013 1:50 PM

We Have 10 Km New Perimeter PVC coated chain link fabric fence with three layer Barbed wire(GI) on top and this new fence connecting to around 5 Km Existing electrical fence .An 11KV Overhead line crossing though this fence and 33Kv Overhead line along with this fence

Our contractor designed Mesh earthing system 15 meter length 1 meter width bare copper cable and one GI earth electrode (20 mm dia 3 meter length (depth) and installed directly to the earth (without carbonous back fill) this system installed every 200 metre length and it is not connecting to the plant grounding system. According to our project Spec the individual earthling electrode resistance should be less than 5 ohm and grid valueless than 1 ohm. But the measured earth resistance (individual earth electrode is getting 20 to 66 ohm and mesh value is 6 to 1.7 ohm.

Now our contractor saying their calculation consider only mesh value only. Is it acceptable? If not how can reduce the earth resistance?

Based on your prior history of questions, I'd have to say that you are not competent. And asking an anonymous forum for free consultation, as you have done in the past, is not a good way to conduct business.

If your project spec is the controlling document, then you should not have to ask.

Hire an electrical contractor, or consultant.

Or consult Carnac, the Magnificent.

I'm feeling some hostility....no, more like disdain.......and the answer is.......Hire a qualified electrician..!!...

Mesh earthing system 15 meter length 1 meter width bare copper cable

That doesn't really describe the mesh geometry very well.

Can you describe this more completely please?

What is your soil type and weather conditions?

How are you performing the ground resistance measurements?

How are the earthing elements bonded to each other?

How are you separating the grid from the electrode to determine their individual resistances?

Well, I may just add that the it is important for your fence to be well insulated to ensure the voltage remains constant along your entire fence system.
