Does your "Check Engine" light come on when you turn the key on? You might try a couple things first, (1) cleaning the fuel strainer at the fuel filter and changing the fuel filter. (2) change the engine oil. Have you connected a code reader to it? Does your "Check Engine" light come on when you turn the key on? Chances are, if it runs after squirting ether into it, the ECM is ok. There are other forums that talk about this, click Here

We don't know where your located, but being you have a towing service, do you have any connections with the repair shops you tow vehicles to or for? they might be better at helping you with this, at least they'll have it in front of them to work on it. Do you know someone else that has the same truck you can barrow their ECM to check your truck. Or click Here and see if anything will work for you.

Did you plug a code reader in and check for any hidden codes? Have you tried to "reset" or clear codes with a code reader? Old engine oil does not have the viscosity to operate the fuel injectors. A clogged fuel strainer and or fuel filter will not allow enough fuel to the engine.

If you are planning on fixing this yourself, I would highly recommend buying a repair manual with a good trouble shooting section that includes flow charts. Otherwise take it to a repair shop and plan on spending $$$

Some where you have an open in the electrical system. I would surmise that in changing the solenoid, you caused the problem. It ran before you changed the solenoid, so it should after you finished the job. Retrace you steps, did you remove the battery cable, you should have. if so, maybe a poor connection when the cable was replaced. If you didn't remove the cable, then maybe you shorted a cable when you disconnected the solenoid, blowing a fuse. If the dash doesn't light up, as normal on a startup, when trying to start then the computer is not getting power. Sometimes the manufactures put overcurrent devices in weird and wonderful places. If you can't find anything call a competent mechanic a little closer to home.

When the engine is warm disconnect the new solenoid tape the connections does it run properly? I think you may have wired it up wrong. Once my diesel tractor is warm I don't need glow plugs except to plug the holes in the block.

You don't mention why you changed the relay in the first place, please do.

ie you cause sparks?

Did you blow any fuses? Have you catually checked with a meter?

Was the relay "truly" compatible, or did it just happen to fit?

Have you tried putting the old relay back? What happened?

Internet auction sites (names withheld) are great for getting rid of problems like this. One simply lists the vehicle with a few photographs and an accurate description of the fault(s), then a few days later someone comes along with some money, swaps it for the vehicle, and takes the problem away.
