How To Find Diameter of Salient Pole Rotor Hydrogen

12/23/2013 11:47 PM

Hi,

Is there any specific method from which we can find exact diameter of rotor of salient pole hydrogenerator? I think, we can only have a range of values for it. I am aware of one method called Walker's method - but it suggests a range of values for constants and in that case, we can only have range of values for peripheral speed. We can then find rotor diameter from peripheral speed, which also comes in range of values.

Sks

Are you kidding? Have you never heard of tape measures, calipers, micrometers, etc.?

You've been coming here since 2009 asking lame questions that only educated fools would ask. Or, maybe that should be people with no common sense or the ability to find answers to relatively simple questions about power plants and electricity using a search engine, or reading a text book or on line journal. Or asking people who build the equipment you are asking us about.

You do seem to have enough ability to find this site and use it often as a resource, but not enough to perform independent searches for answers to your questions.

The generator manufacturer will very likely play your silly game and provide you with a practical answer to your question. The shaft is a mechanical item that actually exists and can easily be measured, as Tornado has pointed out to you.

You are not trying to determine some theoretical value for an unknown object.

Do some actual work, for yourself. You might find that it is a satisfying experience.

Hi,

Thanks. Appears only manufacturers can answer, though, I had expected manufacturers also on this forum.

I hope that he can also deduce that no manufacturer is going to provide enough (correct) information to reverse-engineer their products.

Hey babu,

If I wanted to make a rectangle with a circumference if 2 meters, what would its dimensions be?

I'm sure I could find a lot of manufacturers that would do this for me, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't know which measurements were important to me unless I gave them all of the information!

In most solutions, there are details that are critical, and details that are not. Knowing which is which will lead to the right solution.

We have a saying, "There is more than one way to skin a cat!" I don't know why that expression involves a cat, but I fear it had something to do with a restaurant!

(Sorry Del, it's just a figure of speech)
