I have the same problem.

When a sudden flash of brilliance comes over me, I don't always remember to take the additional, silly steps needed to preserve the priceless jewels of wisdom which spring forth from my fertile mind.

It's aggravating as hell to lose even 5 minutes of unrepeatable pontification.

What? Your jewels are in peril? Up with this we shall not put!

The Priceless Jewel Preservation division of LynDoor™ Industries is almost ready for planet-wide release of our next blockbuster success, The UPPJPD (Unrepeatable Pontification and Priceless Jewel Preservation Device).

The release has been delayed, though, by two nagging problems:
1) Operates backwards in Australia
2) Light compression and storage (necessary for machine operation) remains problematic; The 112 kegabyte capacity of the baloney used in our SANDWICH device is proving an ineffective filter for some of the Unrepeatable Pontification and Priceless Jewels that are anticipated.

Until these issues are resolved, we suggest the continued use of <ctrl>a and then <ctrl>c as an acceptable stopgap measure.

LynDoor™ Industries, working to make the world a better place with better baloney (and more mustard).

Do not forget the requisite <ctrl>v lest you are forced to recreate your postulations.

The OT postings and lesser that I write are never lost; only my best ones; and usually the GA's too.

Yes, it has become a pain to post, and one can only wonder if this is causing a fall-off in posting. Posters are like teeth, ignore them enough and they will go away.

I have found a free stop watch timer that can be reduced to as small as you like to lurk on top of your browser window...it floats an can be positioned anywhere on the screen....by starting the timer when you hit the reply button it can serve a a reminder to copy your post before hitting the submit button.....Perhaps somebody will come up with the exact time allotted for a reply to be actively composed....

Test for 20 min......20:01 + = ok

On the bright side, recreational marijuana use becomes legal in Colorado today....Tourists can only purchase 1/4 oz at a time, and can only possess up to an ounce....You must be 21 or older, and there is no smoking in public....This includes your car, parks, anyplace really except a private residence or hotel room designated as a smoking allowed room....No transporting across state lines...

Test reply time out #1...... 6 min = ok

test #2 ........ 10 min = ok

"WARNING! You are only allowed to edit your posts for 15 minutes from the time of original posting. That means you must submit your edit by01/01/2014 1:24:06 PM, which gives you only 14.5 minutes! "

This could be the function that is limiting the post reply time I suspect at 15 min before timeout..... The compose and edit times should be separate....Maybe compose time at 1 hour and edit time is ok at 15 min I guess....?

I wouldn't be so sure about the 30 minute thing. I have had it bite me after 5 - 10 minutes many times. It's a rather random occurrence.

If you have nothing worth repeating it works just fine but give a good well thought out reply/rant and that's when it bites you.

I think that the posting failure is triggered by a change on the page while answering. This can be somebody posting another reply or an advertisement change.

Re: CR4 Tune Up

You guys are just getting this problem now? I have been dealing with it for so long it's become second nature to just do a copy and paste, what ever I had that was over a few sentences long, into a whole new browser session CR4.

I just assumed it was a permanent bug like how the spell check doesn't work worth crap or how some peoples posted pictures never show up.

Too bad we don't have any members here who are software engineers who could take a look at this sort of stuff in their free time.

I agree with you - sometimes its better to have a work around in use as standard practice than to fight to change a complex system. The copy paste work around has benefitted me in many more forums than this; so I rarely get worked up when a glitch occurs. It would be nice to not have to use it; but then we will inevitably get caught and lose something we neglected to backup; then we have only ourselves to blame.

I agree. The simple work around of using the collection of copy and paste key strokes is better than a complicated alteration of the editor.

Re: CR4 Tune Up

Fredski-

Agree completely! It is a real waste of time and energy.

My way around it is to do the reply in Microsoft word or other word processor. Spell check it there (they are much better than the CR4 one).

Go to CR4, check the "reply" box for the one you are answering, This brings up the "Your Message" box.

Go back to the WP and highlight all your reply. Using the mouse left button drag the text over to the "Your Message" box and release the mouse button. All your text is now in the message box and CR4 thinks it only took you 10 seconds to post the answer!

This reply was done with this method. It took about 10 seconds to take it from the WP to CR4. It looks much more difficult and with a lot more energy in this reply than it takes to do it.

An added benefit is that once you take it out of the WP, the screen is blank, you can restore the text by simply touching the counter-clockwise arrow and the WP reply is reinstated. If you want you can save this to the disk with very little effort. If you ever have a similar answer just open it and cut and paste it.

Good Luck, Old Salt

Re: CR4 Tune Up

I have actually not ever had a problem posting. But that said, reading all the posts here

had me laughing so hard at times my wife even wanted to know what I was reading so I had to show her, her being sick with the flu was even laughing and let me say, that is a Good Thing!!

Happy New Year all and we wish you all a very prosperous 2014 in health, wealth and automobiles.

If I can do this right, this will be a pic of my co workers 1925 Studebaker RV that was used at his wedding 30+ years ago and is now going to be used this summer for his daughters wedding.

It looks just the same today as it did then. It has a stove, toilet, running water

Fridge, heater, no AC though. And still runs perfect.

Agree with the Word cut and paste ... use it quite often here as a work around. It's a sign of a 'good engineer' being able to deal with the unexpected and not be disappointed. And in the spirit of the Year of the Horse (power) starting Jan 31 and Lucky Money ....

dvmdsc gave the best advice.
"It happens to me all the time because I am a slow redactor. Most of the time I get the message -could not process.......-

I go back in the browser, copy and paste the text, go further back and throw it in again.

And I am OK."

Re: CR4 Tune Up

Here hear! I have reported this "pain in the backside" several times to no avail.
It's no good you complaining.... no one is listening... been this way for months.

The good side is.. now I Ctrl C (copy) whatever I write every time - and when
it fails to continue - I click it back to the original page by the browser arrow,
do Ctrl V (paste) and continue, laughing at having beaten this stupid program!

This has now become a habit, so even if you fix it, I'll still beat it.
(now I just have to control my twitchy lefthand... ctrl c ctrl v ctrl c ctrl v...)

jt.

John got off the elevator on the 50th floor and nervously knocked on his blind date's door.
She opened it and was as beautiful and charming as everyone had said.
"I'll be ready in a few minutes," she said. "Why don't you play with Spot, my dog, while you're waiting?"
He does wonderful tricks. He rolls over, shakes hands, sits up and if you make a hoop with your arms, he'll jump through."
The dog followed John onto the balcony and started rolling over.
John made a hoop with his arms and Spot jumped through--and right over the balcony railing!
Just then John's date walked out saying. "Isn't Spot the cutest, happiest dog you've ever seen?"
"To tell you the truth, " he replied, "Spot seemed a little depressed to me!"

SIte link freeze up after hitting the reply button is my biggest annoyance. Most times if left long enough 5 - 45 minutes the damn thing goes through or kills my work completely.

Until then I have no way to back up copy and repost without loosing everything.

That's just the "delete useless information" feature working. Some types of useless information take longer than others to thoroughly kill.

Backing your browser up one step isn't that painful, and even I've now been trained to do it, so, anybody can.
