Did You Know?

Pictures, info available?

>>>>>>>>>

By the turn of the century, the spread of home electricity brought the vibrator to the consumer market. The appeal of cheaper treatment in the privacy of one's own home understandably made the vibrator a popular early home appliance. In fact, the electric home vibrator was on the market before many other home appliance 'essentials': nine years before the electric vacuum cleaner and 10 years before the electric iron. A page from a Sears catalog of home electrical appliances from 1918 includes a portable vibrator with attachments, billed as "Very useful and satisfactory for home service."

The advent of the battery powered model signaled an era of portability, and freedom, previously unknown. Service was available anywhere, with no waiting.

..."Mr. Mortimer Granville and his wealthy scientific friend Lord Edmund St. John-Smythe fathered the first object of this kind in the 1880′s "...

Oh ! now I get it, never understood why my grand mother yelled me that way : "NO ! not that !, have my binoculars case instead."

By the way, non-vibrating versions were on the market thousands of years ago.

How does a 'non-vibrating' object become a 'vibrator'? And didn't you read the advertisements posted? The pictures clearly showed them being used for facial massage, much like the ad's of today. Is there some kind of a misunderstanding?

I guess not a lot has changed in advertising.

However, the adds or at least one posted by solar eagle points towards other applications. For your primary question, I had parkinson in mind?

I don't think someone with Parkinson's moves fast enough to be classed as 'vibrating'...although some 'twitch' rather rapidly. I did meet an elderly lady at an auction who bought a concrete vibrator, I asked what she was going to use it for as she was elderly... and she just smiled and said something about it would clean up nicely.
