Jotacote Universal - Protective Coatings for Steel Penstock Interiors

01/02/2014 6:50 AM

Dear All,

I have a simple question "can jotacoat universal apply as a penstock interior coating without any top coating?" If not what are the reasons?

Please give me an answer.

Tilan

Based on previous questions from you and answers given I'd say no.

If universal is a primer you need a top coat or a repaint in one year! Watch the abrasion issue as paint might not be suitable for the job.

http://www.jotun.com/ have a pretty detailed web page to get informed!

Jotacote Universal is designed as a universal, all round, all year, newbuilding coating, where fast dry to handle is required. Can be used as primer, midcoat, finish or as single coat system in atmospheric and immersed environments. It is a two component polyamine cured pure epoxy coating.

They say yes.

The coating is only as good as the surface prep. A thorough sand blasting (to give the surface good "tooth") followed by a meticulous cleaning/degreasing, at the very least.

If it takes you less time to prepare the surface than it does to apply the coating, you have not done a proper job of surface preparation.
