Welding Copper

Copper is very difficult to weld to due the high thermal conductivity. Copper joints are often brazed together, which helps prevents annealing or thermal softening of the parts. Are looking for a company to perform the welding or do you want to buy equipment? Zak, a company is Troy, NY, specializes in making copper-copper welds . Zak has developed proprietary techniques to weld copper. Try using the search tool on GlobalSpec to find other companies that provide contract welding and fabrication . For some applications, a thermite or exothermic welding process could be used to join copper . Erico make a product like If you want to avoid annealing of softening a more exotic processes such as laser welding or electron beam welding processes may be useful since the heat effected zone is very narrow in these processes. Trumpf, Miyachi Unitek and GSI Lumonics provide laser welding equipment.
