Requirements of Section VIII of the Pressure Vessel Code

Good Day,

I want to ask about the construction, inspection and testing requirements of Section VIII of the Pressure Vessel Code.

If I want to fabricate a pressure vessel what are those requirements? please in summary..

Buy a copy and follow all the parts that apply to configuration and conditions of the vessel(s) you wish to manufacture.

Understanding ASME Sec-VIII Div-1 OR Div-2 is not a rocket science. Without any help i studied 90% of Div-1 and would be completed it with in two weeks. Once you understand Div-1, then remaining sections of ASME B&PV Codes are easy to understand. Start with design part especially service condition, if you are capable to understand it, then 50% of the job is over. Then go to Fabrication and NDT sections. This way you can conquer ASME Sec-VIII. Start reading ASME Sec-VIII Div-1 today and ask queries if you find any difficulty. I will try my level best to guide you.

About $20,000.00 to $30,000.00 to get set up.

What was mentioned earlier is only part of it. It does take more than studying. You have to create tracablitiy of your material, as well as the people that fabricate these vessel. It not a test, these are listed, it the interpretations that has to get cyphered through.

Some examples:

  • Certifying your welders for 6G welding.
  • Welder Logs
  • WPS
  • Quality Contingencies
  • Design Contingency (could be software, keeping in mind, that YOU are still responsible for software calculations)
  • Tracking of your material and items
  • Get a contract with an independent Authorized Inspector (AI) that ensures you are following your plan.

These are just part of the requirements, some are listed as you study.
