It depends, do you want to be an engineer or a manager.
If you want to be a manager, just get a lobotomy, prob' cheaper than an MBA

There is no chance of this forum being able to guess correctly the personal preferences of any particular CR4 user.

Which one feels right? Go for it.

MBA will help you understand what the other groups in your company are doing, like finance, marketing, HR, etc. It helps for managers to know what other groups do so they can all work together in relative harmony to keep the company moving forward. It's good for engineers to have a grasp of the priorities of the business, especially when trying to justify money for a project.

ME will help to set you apart from the other engineers. It will help to qualify you for some higher positions on the technical ladder that aren't as easily attained by guys with BS degrees. R&D and generally prefers advanced technical degrees. Manufacturing not so much. Engineering departments often look for more specialized advanced training (such as instrumentation & control, rotating equipment, process design, project management, etc.)

Neither degree will necessarily force you into one ladder or another. An MBA won't force you into a management position and an ME certainly won't disqualify you from one. Either way, you will need to stay current throughout your career. Learning never ends. When the new technology passes you by, you become a dinosaur. There isn't generally much demand for dinosaurs.

MBA will help you understand what the other groups in your company are doing, like finance, marketing, HR, etc.Groan... that old chestnut.
If that were true... how come the same logic doesn't apply and they get finance HR and marketing to understand some engineering?

Yup! I know what you mean. A lot of those guys started off in engineering and changed their majors right after their first physics or calculus exam freshman year.

Of course, ten years later most of them make more money than engineers!

Yea but when they have come and gone we are still there to pick up the pieces after them.

At least ME contains the word "engineer".

As far as I know, MBA contains the word "bean" as in bean counter.

I've been engineer, manager and director of engineering, but NEVER an MBA. Money isn't everything.

Now I'm a dinosaur.

Then you are drinking way too much.

so which one is best ME or MBA..???

It really comes down to personal preference and interest. Compare the two side by side and think about what you want to be doing in the future that will require either one or the other.

My personal opinion is full time study is best if you can manage it, otherwise part time. I cannot recommend distance at all for an ME or MBA.

Always go for the title/fake degree with the most letters.

It will look much better when you sign some official document.

Like this:

" Dear Sir/Madam,

I recommend that you pursue the following course of action.

Then make your knowledgable recommendation here:

Many engineers have gone for MBA. Some have gone for finance, marketing etc. After few years they have forgotten what they had learned in engineering college. Of course they have made more money but at cost of forgetting engineering. So if you are also interested in making more money then you can go for MBA.

The most important component has been left out of your statement; that being, "what do you want to accomplish in life, i.e. do you want to start a business or work for someone else, how much money do you want to make, when do you want to be able to retire, how much time off do you want, where do you want to live, etc.?"

Another good thought is what you love to do? What are you good at?

Making the wrong decision leads to a life of misery and disappointment. That's where a high number of people are at. They don't like what they do but they have to because they never determined what they wanted to accomplish in life. They then do that for 45 years, hating getting up in the a.m. doing something they don't want to do for someone they don't like. DEFINE (what you want), LEARN (from someone who has those results), DO (what they do).

"Most men live lives of quiet desperation." "Most men die at age 25 and wait till 65 to be buried." Benjamin Franklin

Those things occur because people are living out of obligation rather than purpose ro mission. They are stuck in a rut.

Until you decide what you want to do for sure, get a job in an area that interests you and work there until you decide that is what you want to do with your life. Then you can pursue your career with excitement and enthusiasm, either in school or on the job.

OP has already selected career of engineering, it must be to his liking. Now if he changes it then it will be wrong decision on his part. Of course if does not get rise in his present line of interest then he is at liberty to do it. I have come across many boys who have changed their careers mid way, but have repented it.

If you have to ask that Q, I am sure you didn't do engineering from your liking. Just because there were these so many colleges that offered it, you went for it.

In the same way, go for whatever.

MBA every time - It will help you get ahead to have a foot in both camps.
