HV Feeders

02/04/2014 3:09 PM

What is the standard method for naming HV feeders...or is there one?

I have two feeders for my facility: D and RCT3. D is a straight shot from the substation, but RCT3 is apparently made up at another switch when choosing either RCT2 or ERCT.

Where would the nomentclature RCT or ERCT come from? I can see a generational makeup for RCT3 from RCT2, but I am struggling to find what those designations actually mean.

Any comments appreciated.

Contact the local utility that supplies your power, maybe they'll tell you how they do it.

Was going to suggest John, Paul, George and Ringo but having worked for an electricity authority some time back I believe those names are taken.

We used to name feeders according to their origin and destination and capability, doesn't seem to fit with your current naming convention though.

Name them " INCOMER -1 " and "INCOMER -2" ( " IC -1 " and " IC -2 " )

" MAIN FEEDER" and "AUX FEEDER " (" MF "and " AF ")

I guess I was a bit hasty when I said any comments appreciated.

I am not trying to name a new feeder, I am trying to figure out why feeders (mine in particular) are named the way they are.

We have qualification exams and oral boards in our facility and the question arose from one of my electricians. The information will be intended to be a stumper...a lookup for the newbie (hell, it's a lookup for me!).

Since I maintain the drawings for the facility he assumed I would be able to decrypt the "code" used for the names of our feeders. It's just a designator to me...I don't think the letters "mean" anything...just letters...as in, they aren't the first letters of words.

I will be contacting our local commercial provider, and I will probably get a statement in the first response like, "you're not a lineman, are you?" or "you ain't from aroun' heer, is ya?", but I am willing to take my lumps right now...just for an answer.
