what is the difference between offline and online inverter

One of them will stop when the batteries run down. The other will stop when the mains goes off.

Dear Mr.ibru,

On-Line Inverter will be either in parallel to the supply and when the source fails, automatically the inverter suppl will start for which the Battery will remail fully charged. Once the source resumes, the Battery will go to Charging Mode.

Off-Line Invrter will have to be switched on manually after switching off the source. Once the source resumes power, again the Inverter to be manually switched off and restore the supply from the source. Here Risk is involved due to human error. Hence protection to be given due importance.
