Converting Gas Cogen to Combined Cycle

06/14/2007 5:22 PM

I'm a finance guy and relatively new to this stuff. I am reviewing a cogen power plant which has a steam offtaker and I'd like to replace the steam offtaker with a steam turbine and sell electricity instead. Plant size is 8,000 mmbtu/KWh.

What is involved in adding a steam turbine to replace the steam offtaker? How much electricity could be generated by a steam turbine based on 200GJ / hr? Would the heat rate on the plant go down (i.e. become more efficient) because more electricity is being generated?

What is the hottest steam condition,at what mass flow rate, you can get to run this new Steam Turbo Genset-If you stop selling the steam?

And what price are you NOW getting $/MJ now?

No penalties on you if you stop selling th presently sold steam?

What is your in-house max. KW and daily KW-Hr requirement--if you consume what electric power you will generate?

Would you like to consume 110% (with some buying) of what you will be generating?

Do you want to know details of new Elec. consuming plant to enable using this 110%?

Are you serious: they blow off the steam?

Contact electricity generation specialists on this (Siemens, Alsthom, ...) they will be pleased to work out a real solution.

steam offtaker ? Thats a WHR Boiler on the exhaust of your generators and generating steam to process. you cannot drive a steam turbine since steam is saturated. We make high pressure superheated steam WHRB with which you can drive a steam turbine , generate free electricity and sell.
