Contract electrical testing agencies in the UK would normally recommend every 5 years for a domestic installation. Then, they've got a vested interest in increasing the frequency, of course.

Something mysterious, it would appear.

Yes I've been wondering as well.

Does it mean what is the test frequency for the earth electrodes in a TT earthing system, or does it mean the testing the bonding of a mechanical bonded joint in swimming pool reinforcement for instance.

The latter would be inaccessible and therefore would never be tested but obviously requires to be a firm mechanical joint i.e solid crimp or welded connection.

In the UK testing electrodes is determined by the type of installation, it would be determined during the BS7671 inspection and testing regime which is

Domestic 10 years

Commercial 5 years

Industrial 3 years

Special installations 1 year.

Many installations have to test once a year such as petrol filling stations,

but the Code of Practice for earth electrode installations recommends annual testing preferably during the dry summer season.

A properly designed, installed, and tested electrode system should not vary drastically from summer to winter, but a couple of rods simply driven into wet ground in the winter to get an acceptable reading often realises excessively high values in the dry season
