Really?

The Ariel Atom PL is based on the regular Atom 3.5R, but its Honda engine has been tweaked to produce 350bhp instead of the standard 245bhp, meaning the Police Atom will go from 0-62mph in 2.6 seconds.

Really!

Where do they stick the perp when they catch them?

They strap them to the towed skateboard.

And a cop is going to sit in that all day long?

I do not see the point.

One point might be how amusing it would be watching a cop, with their cumbersome utility belts and various accoutrements, try to exit that car to give you a ticket. It might encourage speeding.

It's show car. The department uses them for events not actual police work.

This vehicle is for Avon and Somerset in England. Last I heard, it frequently rains there. I can not see the police in one of these on a rainy day.

Maybe he'll arrest me and give me a ride back to the police station!

I made a break for freedom when I was 4. A copper on a motorbike found me, and was just about to give me a lift home when my Dad turned up. I had to walk home - screaming all the way. I really wanted that ride!

The idea is not as silly as it sounds, the police have some Lamborghinis in Italy and I think Saudi Arabia even have a Bugatti Veyron or two. But these are wide open straight(ish) roads where chase speeds have a chance of exceeding standard police vehicle or motorbike speeds.

However the Atom is relatively inexpensive, so perhaps in certain areas it actually makes sense (like, not in London for example).

Unless you happen to be driving the Ariel Atom 500 hp V8 which will blow the socks of the lower powered police version.

A US police officer would have a tough time finding a place for the box of doughnuts in that thing. Of course, this is British. so what do your police snack on?

Seems like a tall order to get all three of those in that car.

I'm not sure what the fuss is about, given that police motorcycles are equally short of luggage- and passenger-carrying space. This vehicle is actually useable for more of the year than a motorcycle. My only concern is that the vehicle, as depicted, lacks a front number plate, and therefore does not meet the criteria for use on UK roads.

I wonder if UK motorcycle cops feel a little silly riding around with a special modifications that allow front number plate attachment.

In the UK, the law does not require a front licence plate on a motorcycle, but it does on a car.

It's a track version of the car - used for publicity. There is a street-legal version of the Atom, but this isn't one.

Nor do the police use the cars for street work.

Here is a link to Dubai's show cars:

Yes but it doesn't have the advantages of a motorcycle e.g manouverab it can't weave through traffic.

So you have all the disadvantages and none of the advantages... oh and it costs more.

they tell us the police are short of funds, so we now have an extra layer of beurocracy Police Commisioners, and guess waht our one has just employed an assistant!
