Distillery Spent Wash Burning - to Acheive Zero Discharge from Distillery

06/06/2014 10:05 PM

Dear CR4 MEMBERS,

Many cr4 members will be Chemical Engineers and specialized in Distillery - processing Molasses and obtaining ENA, Ethanol etc. in which spent wash is to be disposed and burning is one type of disposal.

One problem is while concentrating the spent wash in Evaporators, the condensate pH is as low as 2.4, this is much serious issue, while disposing the spent wash condensate.

I request cr4 members to share their experience in burning the DISTILLERY SPENT WASH BURNING, so that ZERO DISCHARGE to Environment is achieved or it is brought to a bare minimum.

Good answer; put everything into the gas phase and it all should just blow away.( for details see #2)

Just because the discharge is in a gaseous state at the time of release does NOT mean zero discharge. It just makes the discharge less obvious, and with a pH that low, contributes more to acid rain, among other things.

Can that acid be concentrated and purified to produce a saleable product?
