when you find the answer please let me no. how do i burn my files onto a dvd? all new to me. can not even burn my pictures onto a disc. just do not no how. hope you can help. thank-you Barry
Guest, you can use DVD ripping software for your purpose but you have to take 2 factors into account: the capacity of your media player, and the output format of the ripper. You have to ensure that the ripper can convert the output file into a format that your player supports, and it must be small enough to be stored into your player without any problems.
Please take note that these days, DVDs are copy protected. If you're unable to find a ripper that can break through the protection, you may need to play your DVD back in a DVD player and have the playback copied into your computer through a video capture device. From here, it can be transferred into your media player.
Balding Barry, first, you'll need a DVD-writer. You then need the necessary software to write the files onto the disc. Most DVD-writers these days come bundled with Nero or some similar software. These would do just fine for making music/data CDs or VCDs. If you're planning to make a movie DVD with chapter selection like a commercial DVD, you'll need something better, such as Intervideo WinDVD Recorder. Again, if you're planning to transfer home movies to DVD, you'll also need a video capture device.
There are several types of DVD or CD writing software. Nearly of all them, however, are operated the same way. You insert a blank disc into the writer and activate the software. You select the type of disc you want to write (e.g. VCD, music CD etc), then drag and drop the files you want to write in. When you are done, you click on burn or write, and leave the computer alone to do its job. Please note that anti-virus and screensavers should be disabled during this process, or your CD may not work. Finally, you need not worry about getting a separate CD-writer to make music CDs. All DVD-writers will record on CDRs and DC-RWs without any problem.
Have fun, both of you.

They use open source software called Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/)
If you still have problems with it not being able to remove the copy/region protection, try:
For Wndows: http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html
For Mac: http://www.mactheripper.org/
Disclaimer: In many countries copying of DVDs etc or removing encryption mechanisms, even on those DVDs you legally have purchased, is illegal (In my opinion for very stupid, short-sighted reasons).
I do not condone illegally pirating media - that is stealing and wrong. However I do support the idea that people should be able to back up or watch legally acquired media in their preferred format.
Not sure if it was shut down but it still works and is available via peer to peer. It doesn't seem to handle DVD's by Sony entertaiment though (I haven't found a utility that does though....).
Well, a Google search will provide suppliers. The <...best...> depends on the measuring parameters and the weighting given to each; this forum cannot supply that.
