GE Multilin MIF Relay Failure

06/11/2014 5:53 PM

MIF relays 10 years old. Multiple failures... 2 failure modes... 1 - all LEDs illuminated... 2 - ready led not illuminated Suspect power supply failure.. Does anyone have experience of these failures ? Thanks in advance... Colintonybone

Can you reset the unit? Have you tried communicating with it via the serial port (this relay is showing its age) to check its configuration? If the microprocessor is still microprocessing then you might try flashing the memory. When all else fails then it's time to call GE (something that you should have tried before posting here). Let us know what you find out.

Appreciate your advice. Tried software communication before posting. No Coms. No local reset. Unit suicide seems to have been caused by power down power up during outage work. 4 units in total dead. Ordered new ones. Also had a couple of old ones repaired by Fletcher Moorland in Stoke on Trent. Reports sketchy, probably intentionally so I can't repair myself, but suggest change out of electrolytic capacitors on the power supply. Colintonybone.

Another observation... I have been loaned a MIF II relay. ( my new ordered relays will all be this type ) Although I have original MIF Setpoint file, the MIF II will not accept it, so it had to be programmed manually. I'm not sure if EnterVista software offers a conversion function but will look at this further. Colintonybone

Change it with SEL. They are most reliable and user friend relays.
