Vessel Flange Modification

Dears,

our contractor installed a vessel in our plant .he need to instal one LIT(level indicator which is rador type) . we found vessel vendor done wrong by fabricating 1" flange instead of 3" on the LIT installing nozzle.now our contractor wants to change nozzel modofications by cutting old 1" flange and weld new 3" reducer flange . Now vessel is installed working condition with 0.9 bar pressure.is it acceptavle? what are the approvals he need to take to fabricate . any ASME standards voilations occurs ? pls clarify nozzle is SS SA 312 .

A modification like this needs to be carried out by the original vessel vendor, and not by anyone else, for insurance and liability purposes. Two phone calls are needed to start this task off: one to the original vessel vendor and the other to the Engineer/Surveyor for the company that is providing burst/collapse indemnity insurance cover on the vessel. The next step depends upon the outcome of those phone calls.

Dear,our vessel vendor is far away not local ; staying other country , so can our EPC contractor can go head for vessel modification at site with approval/acceptance letter From vendor ? What are the possibilities ? pls clarify

If a 1" aperture is sufficient for sending and receiving the beam, why not just make an adapter plate that bolts to the existing 1" flange, with the radar in turn bolting to the plate?

There is no guarantee that 1" aperture is enough that the radar beam can go and come back . So now contractor is looking to make fab modifications by changing 1" to 3 flange as per engg design Thanks ,

Then why did you say "reducing flange"?; the nozzle pipe will also need to be increased. In the U.S., that would entail an "R" shop if done in the field.

yes tornado, what you told some what right as "nozzle pipe need to be incereesed"

actually what happend is , radar probe failed to go through actual LIT nozzle due to some obstruction of plate worongly installed (design mistake) in side vessel . so contractor would like to use nearby vaccum connection nozzel as a LIT nozzle. he already vaccum connection connected to LIT nozzle.Now problem with LIT nozzle. any beam distance differences arises due to pipe modified elevation change ?
