No, no, no. We're supposed to completely improvise and use anything that comes into our mind.

Ground fault protection test, a little pepper. Then record the time until the first sneeze.

Cable insulation resistance, lay a room temperature cable on a half inch thick piece of ice on a wooden table. Time how long it takes for the cable to melt through the ice.

Don't forget to get a couple of pears to review your results.

Never, never use any test procedures written by any over paid bureaucrat. The tax money they waste with their silly papers and forms are just a burden on the economy. Don't believe them when they claim they have any kind of authority, who's paying their salaries in the first place.

Wasn't me, I've put it right the best I can.

You must have given yourself the -5. I can only get rid of one point.

You are right I should have thought of some totally outlandish bit of kit for the OP to buy/make.

If you did that then you would also have to include the tester for that!

Who tests the tester testing the tester testing the relay for competence for tester tester testing?

This is always a ritualistic question involving who covered the last bar tab.

Never thought it was you , but thank you for cancelling the OT on my initial response. I gave myself the OT -5 only for my rebuttal about sarcasm. Just like this one.

We would either hire or purchase the proper relay test equipment or send the relay to a testing company that had it and let them do the testing.

Have you tried an internet search?

Re: Protection Relay Testing

That's not what my question was..Would you do a protection relay test on a cable? No, but then again cables cant be classified as equipment.

My question is much simpler. What equipment ie; Transformers? Relays? what kind of relays etc.

And please tone down the sarcasm :P

Might be a dumb question..In my defence just got out of college..My technical knowledge isn't really good

Buried in my sarcasm is a link to some useful information for you. While it applies to US and not India power grid work, you should still get some useful information from it.

As for your question being simple, proper testing is never simple. Proper testing is tedious and methodical work to obtain a valid result. It requires people doing their own due diligence and thinking about what they are doing. Welcome to the real world. The real world does not spoon feed you information just so you can regurgitate on an exam. Sometimes the information you ask for comes with sarcasm. Everybody has bad days and coping mechanisms.

Hadn't noticed the link before.. I do not need to to know testing completely. What I wanted was a vague idea. Thanks!

You want a vague idea.

From a report from a UK test house:

UNCERTAINTIES
The reported expanded uncertainties are based on a standard uncertainty multiplied by a coverage factor k=2, providing a level of confidence of approximately 95%.

I am still not sure what your question actually is!

Can you try and clearly explain your question one more time.

The profile of the company states

"Area of Service:

Protection relay testing for substations, Power Transformers, Generators, Line Feeder Protections & HT Motors to 765kV AIS substations and 400kV GIS substations with all make of Protection relays such as Alstom ,ABB, Siemens, GE."

Can you explain what that exactly means?

Sounds like something a company that has a department that specialises in testing protection relays would stick on their website. Everything else is just a description on the different areas and applications protection relays could be found being used.
